UVA and UVB protection

Go for a sunscreen that gives you UVA and UVB protection. This way you can block ultraviolet-B (UVB) rays and prevent sunburns. On the other hand, shield your skin from ultraviolet-A (UVA) rays, which increases the chances of skin cancer.

Opt for SPF 30

Most products nowadays offer sunscreen with SPF (Sun Protection Factor) 30. The role of SPF is to absorb and reflect the sun rays, no chance of sunburn or skin damage.

Early start

The thing with sunscreen is that it takes time to get absorbed by your skin. It’s best to start early. When you are planning to go out, make sure that you apply sunscreen 30 minutes prior to your schedule. This would give your skin ample to absorb it properly.

Apply your sunscreen thoroughly, to face, ears, feet and neck (including back of your neck) 30 minutes before you step out in sun.

Apply and reapply

The trick with sunscreen is not just about applying, but reapplying. Despite claims of all-day protection by your favourite sunscreens, they last for 2 hours or so. So, make sure that you reapply sunscreen every 2 hours.

Reapplying is essential especially when you are using a spray sunscreen or if you are sweating more.

Only sunscreen is not enough

Apart from sunscreen, you need other important items in your kitty to shield yourself from sunburns, blisters etc.  You should get a lip balm with SPF 30, sport a sunglass with UV protection, use a veil, dupatta or scarf to cover your face.
