As an individual interior designer you can make your portfolio by initially willing to work on design projects for friends or relatives on small budgets. Ensure that you take high quality photographs of your work to include in your portfolio.
To become interior designer, you need to enroll in courses on interior designing at a university, college, or design school. These courses help you to learn about interior designing and its technical aspects, such as working within the guidelines laid-out as planned or as required.
There are Bachelor’s Degree courses, Diploma Programmes and Certificate courses in Interior Designing. Master’s programmes include MA, M.Sc., Master of Interior Design, Master of Design or M.Arch.
The eligibility criteria is Bachelor’s Degree for Master’s Programme, 10+2 passed (Science, Commerce or Art) for Diploma and Certificate courses. Some institutes accept 10th Pass for Certificate courses.
To become interior designer the famous colleges for Interior designing are National Institute of Design (NID) and Sir JJ School of Arts. There are many others too in the fray.
A certificate programme may cost around Rs.5,000 to Rs.10,000, depending on the city and the institute/college.
